Pantone's Color of the Year - Greenery: Ways to Add to Your Home

Are you curious what the Pantone color of the year is all about? Every year, in December, Pantone releases a color that they choose as the color of the year. From their site Pantone says:

What is the PANTONE Color of the Year?

"A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude."

I am usually on board for their color choices and this year's color is no exception. I don't decorate much with green, outside of my faux and real plants, but I have seen beautifully decorated places that is fully infused with this color. You can add this color to your house in a large or small scale way. 

My favorite large scale use of this color is palm leaves wallpaper. This wallpaper called Wildly White from FlavorPaper is certain to turn some heads and is a great way to add some jazz to your space

In addition to wallpaper you can add large furniture or rugs.

On a small scale you can add these colors through accents pieces such as throws, pillows, vases or small accent furniture.

Also, actual plants, real or faux, are a great idea for incorporating this color.

I am not totally surprised about this color choice. The social stance over the last few years has been about going green and rejuvenating our environment. Green always gives this feelings so this color choice is right in line with social trends.

Non Traditional Colors for Fall

When you think of Fall what are some colors that you think of??...reds, oranges, dark yellows. I personally have never been a fan of red, orange, or yellow home decor, so you can probably imagine that I've never gotten into the Fall decorating spirit. I got to thinking the other day about Fall decorating and realized you don't have to always go with the traditional colors. To me, Fall is all about deep and rich colors, regardless of which one you picks! I've pulled together some paint color suggestions that I love and some room inspiration for some of my favorite non traditional Fall colors for home. Check them out below!

Blue

Behr's Very Navy is perfect for fall. I love this color! I have incorporated this color in my house for Fall this year. In my last post you can see that Blue has made it's way into my bedroom in a major way.

Purple

When you think of purple I'm sure you are not thinking of Fall. But like I said before any rich color can go for Fall. If you are going to go with purple, go for a deep purple. Behr's Deep Claret is a great option.

Green

I know nothing about Fall screams green. The leaves are turning from green to brown, the green grass is dying, yes I get it! But dark green is screaming Fall to me! Behr's Alfalfa Extract is exactly what I'm thinking of when I think of non traditional Fall colors. 

This inspiration takes green straight to the walls. These dark green walls certainly makes this room cozy and feels like Fall!

Looking for a fun and playful color combination?  Try combining Teal & Gold with pops of Hot Pink! Anchor the room with a patterned black and white rug and add a playful sequin reindeer pillow to the mix. Select a BOLD teal color for your sofa and add gold accents pieces like chairs, and tables. Finish the room with a statement piece light fixture and flowers for a soft touch.

Now you are probably wondering how in the world can this be added to home decor... especially if you aren't a "purple person like me. Here are some tips on add Pantone's color choice, Radiant Orchid to you home decor.

• Add color through the use accent pieces, such as rugs, pillows, or accent furniture
• Pair Radiant Orchid with neutral color such as gray, biege, or white.

Ways to Add {Pantone Color of the Year 2013} Emerald Green To Your Home Decor

Well we are three weeks into 2013.. how many of you have been adding the Pantone Color of the Year 2013: "Emerald Green" to your home decor?

Personally, I think I'd rather see Emerald Green accents rather than full fledged green walls. I'm not a major green fan, but I think pops of the Emerald Green throughout the house would look nice.....somewhere along the lines of a dresser, chair, curtains, or throw pillows. I ran across some great pictures showing ways to add Emerald Green to your home decor without going into overload.
