DIY Labeled Bins

I recently discussed tips to get your bathroom organized. I got a lot of great feedback regarding the bin I used, so I figured I'd share more details behind those bins.

Here's what you'll need to make these bins:

Blue Painters Tape
Plastic Bins: I purchase clear ones for $4.99 and also used wastebaskets that were $2.99, both from Target
Mambi Sticker Letters: I purchase them from Hobby Lobby. The were 40% off of the original price of $7.99

This wasn't super hard to do. Start with you clear bin and make a straight line across with your painters tape. This will serve as the straight edge for placement of your letters.

Next, add the letter to the bins. Keep in mind the spacing of the letter and be sure to center your letter on your bin.

I used the hole are the top of the bin as my guide. For 4 letter words I made sure that the gap between the 2nd and 3rd letter was directly beneath the hole. For 5 letter words I made sure the middle letter was directly beneath the hole.

Once your letters are perfect you can remove your tape. The great thing about these stickers is that you can easily remove them if you need to re-position them.

I repeated the same steps on my blue wastebaskets. I thought the wastebaskets were a great color...so I went with it, and it worked! I absolutely love how they came out!

Turning a Crib into a Vertical Garden

Today I wanted to shared how I turned my daughter's old crib into a vertical garden. I have been long looking for a way to add flowers near or around my patio. We have a water drainage issue so planting them in the ground is not a good option. I had been researching online for some alternative ideas and ran across the vertical garden idea.

It seemed simple enough to do so I planned to head to The Home Depot to get the supplies...and that's where my daughter's crib comes in. I have also been in the process of purging my house of unneeded items. My daughters crib was on the way to the dumpster when I realized it looked like it would be a perfect fit for a vertical garden....and this my friends is how all this came about. 

If you have a old crib laying around give this a try.

Supplies:

Crib Frame

Shower Curtain Hooks

Spray Paint

Metal Pails

Nails

Hammer

Soil + Plants

Here is a before pic I have of the crib frame. Please excuse the porch as I am currently working on fixing that up for the #1Room30Days Project. You can read more about that HERE.

I found my pails and shower curtain hooks at Target. The pails were $1 a piece and the hooks were on clearance for $5. We poked holes in the bottom of the cans to help with drainage.

My daughter was my little helper as usual on this. I had her fill the pail about 1/3 full of soil and then add her flowers. We repeated this step for every pail. I love doing little projects where she can be involved. Kids today spend so much time with technology and TV and I think it's good to get her exposed to doing other things.

We finished and tested our idea out before we began spray painting. You can see the shower curtain hooks that we used. I love the design of them and they are pretty sturdy.

Lastly we spray painted. I chose white because I thought it popped well with the bricks.

Easy DIY Valentine's Gift Ideas

Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorites! Actually it's my second favorite holiday only coming second to New Years. It's a great holiday to show the ones in your life that you care and to shower them with extra love and attention. It is always a great time to let people know how much you appreciate them.

I like to take this time of year to recognize my daughter's teacher. I seriously commend anybody who is a teacher. It has to be one of the hardest and most undervalued professions, but yet there are still millions of dedicate people who take on this role. They are the REAL MVPS!

I grabbed just about everything I needed for the gift from the Target dollar bin, plus a little something extra and put it all together to make a cute little care package. If you are considering whipping up a quick and easy gift you will for sure want to check out the dollar bin at Target.

I also found some other great ideas of DIY Valentine's Day gift that would be great for teachers as well.  This DIY mug from She Does A Bunch is so adorable! I love the stenciling on the mug.

DIY: Mini Pom Pom Ornaments

Christmas is about a month and a half away but it's hard to resist decorating early when every store has had Christmas decorations for sale for the past month or so. Like any other child, my daughter gets super excited about the holidays.

I've always wanted to try a DIY ornament and was inspired by a project my daughter brought home from school one day. In her art class they painted puzzle pieces and glued them together to form snowflakes. They were really adorable! So I knew I wanted to try something with puzzle pieces.

I came up with this mini pom pom ornament for us to do together. I had some pink gift fillers left over from my daughter's birthday, some gold spray paint left over from her desk makeover, and some twine.. that I just randomly keep on hand. I combined all these tings and these little ornaments came out so cute, check out below on how to recreate them! (also, she created some ornaments of her own design you can check those out later in the post)

Supplies:
Puzzle Pieces
Gold Spray Paint
Pink Gift Bag Filler
Glue
Paint Brush
Scissors
Twine

Directions:
Gather your puzzle pieces and spray paint them gold. I did one coat. Once they are dry add some glue to the puzzle piece and spread it with the paint brush.

Next grab a handful of the pink filler and roll into a lose ball. Place the pink filler down on the puzzle piece and hold in place for a couple of minutes.

Let that dry for a bit. We placed another puzzle piece on top of the filler to help with holding everything in place while it dried.

Next, cut a piece of a 6 inch piece of twine. This twine is thick and you can separate each piece to make thinner pieces. Place a dot of glue on one end and lay the other end on top of the glue. It will form a bow. This will be the hook for your mini pom pom ornament. Lastly glue the twine hook on the back of the puzzle piece and you are complete.

As I said earlier, after we completed these little ornaments, my daughter wanted to decorate more of her puzzle pieces. She brought out paint, glitter, and more glue.. They came out adorable and we'll be adding these to the tree too! Check out her creations!

We had a great time making these but then came the aftermath! By aftermath I mean knocked over paint brushes and spilled supplies. You know how it is with kids, accidents happen. This added to our already damaged carpet. As many of you know we have a little Yorkie and she does her fair share of ruining the carpet. ....but... the pink and blue on the carpet too...oh god!

I wasn't too worried because I have my new BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution vaccum. This thing some works miracles for carpets. I picked up everything I need for a great clean from Target. It was very easy to find and everything was organized so I could grab what I needed and go! You all know how I feel about unorganized stores.

The express mode allows the carpet to be fresh and clean and dried in about a hour. I got so carried away using it that I not only cleaned up our mess from the ornaments but I also did the entire dining room! 

I used the Professional Pet Urine Eliminator Formula which contains scotch guard and removes strong odors caused by pet urine. I wanted to make sure the stains were permanently removed so I combined it with the Pet Oxy Boost Carpet Cleaning Formula. This boost cannot be used by itself and should be used in addition to the regular formula. After picking up all the bigger items off the floor I was ready to clean the carpet.

Well after doing all of that I am wore out! ...but it was all worthwhile. I had a great time spending my Sunday crafting with my little one and a great time cleaning up this carpet from the aftermath!
