Easy Weekend Bathroom Refresh

I can hardly believe how fast the holidays are approaching. This year we will be hosting Thanksgiving. We will be hosting our family here and also family from out of town. We've been getting the house ready for our guests and this weekend I worked on giving the guest bathroom a little refresh.

The bathroom and kitchen, in my opinion, are two of the most important places in the home. I wanted to have my bathroom perfect for my guests so I did a easy mini makeover to brighten up the space for the holidays. Below is the space before:

I knew I wanted to brighten up the space so the first thing to do was to pick new paint colors. I currently have cherry cabinets and I thought the two colors below looked great with the cabinets.

My plan was to break this refresh up into two days.

Day 1: Clean & Paint Walls
Day 2: Paint Accent Furniture and Decorate

Paint is a great small update that leaves a mega impact! On the first day, we painted the walls. I had my little helper with me and she did a great job. Bathrooms have to be my least favorite room to paint. It's so many turns and nooks and cranies. It's rough!

By the end of Day 1, we had the bathroom fully painted. The space was instantly brightened! I was in love with it already.

On day 2, I tackled painting my accent furniture. I used my paint sprayer to update my etagere. I love etageres, they are perfect for adding additional space in a bathroom. Most space over the toilet goes unused, so these little things are perfect!

The first step was to remove the hardware. Next I did several light coats of paint until it was finished. Patience is key when painting!

 Lastly, after my piece was fully dried I decorated and stocked the bathroom.

The first thing on my list was toilet tissue. You can never have too much tissue. It's one of those things you don't want to run out of when you have guests. I stopped by Target to pick up a couple of packs of Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong® Mega Rolls. The holiday season is pretty busy so having 4 rolls in 1 means less time of having to change the roll. With a full house, I need rolls of tissue that is just as full.

I also added some accessories I had around the house such as a small bowl to catch little items and a candle. The little birdie floats around the house and I think it has found it's new home. Lastly, I added a basket on top to hold extra toilet paper.

Over the tub I added some artwork, candles and a plant.

And that folks, was my weekend project, just in time for the holidays! I absolutely love how it turned out!

The 2 Year Dining Room Makeover

You read that post title correctly. I've been working on my dining room for two years. While browsing through some of my older posts I ran across a post from 2014 of me discussing my dining room updates. It kind of cracked me up because the first thing I thought was, 'man has my style changed!' ... 

This actually was never a post idea but as I look at my dining room now I am compelled to share the difference and the completed (for now) space. There's are two reasons why that I'll share at the end of this post. Let's take a trip down memory lane shall we!

CIRCA 2014

oh.my.goodness is all I can say. I'm looking at this picture and just thinking how much I hate this paint color and this table. At the time, I loved this room. Today... not so much. I actually painted this wall twice. The first shade was just horrible and I settled on this one here After hating this color for 6 months I decided to lighten the space.

I also added this piece of art from Hobby Lobby. I thought it complimented the table well.

I was becoming even more restless with this table set. I was growing more into my style and pretty much made it up in my mind that I hated matching dining sets. So I tried to add some variation by changing out the fabric of the chairs.

I also realized I didn't like that art much and wanted some a little less traditional. I instantly fell in love with this zebra print from IKEA.

That still wasn't enough for me so I figured I would get rid of this table. I didn't care how much everyone else in the house loved it... I was over it. I ventured over to craigslist to get a low top, round table.

I found a couple of chairs on craigslist too and another pair at Bargain Hunt. I planned to paint the top of the table white.....but it was too small. It was a 48" table and after having it in the space for a while I realized it wasn't going to work.

Thanks to a family friend, I was able to get another table top. He hand-made this table top for me. It measures 60" round. He mounted it onto the existing base.

at this point, I was feeling much better and much more inspired by the space. The previous table was given me serious inspiration blockage.

Now, if you checked out the first link you will see there was some things I really wanted for this space. A mini-bar, a nice rug, to update my vase and some curtains were a few of the things. Well friends, I'm happy to saw that I FINALLY have all of those things.

The last two thing on my list for this space is a new chandy and hardwood floors, but in the meantime I'll sit back and enjoy my completed space.

I wanted to share this post for a couple reasons:

1. Please know that it takes time for a room to come together exactly how you like it.. I know it can seem that things just happen overnight in blog world or TV, but please know, it takes time, AND THAT IS FINE!

2. It's ok for your design style to change. I went from one extreme to the other. There is nothing permanent about style.. it's evolving! I loved taking a moment to look at my progression.

PROJECT #1Room30Days: Patio Makeover

Hey everyone! If you have been following along you may have noticed I have shared a couple of outdoor project for you. For the month of June I kicked off my second round of PROJECT #1Room30Days! #1Room30Days is a program that challenges participants to give a space a makeover in 30 days. For the month of June I chose my patio.

When we first moved here I worked on the patio a bit but it was pretty boring. I had these chairs from my previous place and I bought a little table to match the cushions. We also removed some bushes and laid down mulch and I had these two little potted plants. 

Over time, it got pretty neglected and ended up looking like this... I have no excuse really, other than my plants died and I don't spend alot of time on the patio

Pretty bad I know! We made some small updates such as painting the front door and changing the handles last summer.  The door was green (hence the blog name) but I wanted something bolder so we went with a red; Red Pepper by Behr.

If you need any idea about how tall this door is, the mister is 6'2 and on a step on the ladder and still much shorter than the door (hence the blog name again). I loved the way the color popped with our stone. Outside of this we hadn't done much with the patio. After month of fixing up here is the patio now:

One thing I really love about my patio is the natural stone. It's provides a beautiful backdrop. As much as I love the stone, I also found this to be a challenge with what colors to use so that it wouldn't be too matchy but also so that the colors wouldn't clash. I opted to go neutral with pops of red.

Although I was keeping my decor neutral I still wanted to bring in color. I did this by adding lots of plants. I think the green plants makes the space feel more alive and cozy. I brought in plants that would help with mosquitoes such as Citronella and Lavender. I also added Hostas and placed some ground cover plants into little pots. Lastly, I added a touch of flowers.

I created a DIY Vertical Garden using my daughter's old crib frame. We don't have a lot of space in our front yard for a garden so a vertical garden was the best solution. You can find out more about this vertical garden by clicking the link below "DIY Vertical Garden"

Another thing I did was to move my bar cart that I was using for coffee outside. It has now turned into a plant cart for the summer. I added a varity of different plants. Over the past month I've switched the plants in and out, some have died and been replaced..like my Lavender for instance..... lol!

Also, I gave these plant pots a bit of a update using spray paint. They were done on a whim with my little helper.

I also gave my existing furniture an update by spray painting them gray. Patio furniture can be really expensive and I honestly loved my set, so doing a DIY update was a no-brainer for me. You can find out more about the update by clicking the "Wicker Furniture Makeover" link below.

Some of the other items added to the space was a basket I found on clearance at Bealls, string outdoor lights from Target and Bargain Hunt, and a rug from The Home Depot.

I had quite a hard time with keeping the lights up. They have fallen and bulbs have broken a couple of times. I love the ambiance though, so I'm going to keep working at finding ways to keep these things hung... that may even be a post later.

...and there we have it, my patio, that I completed in 30 days! We absolutely love the space and love sitting out and relaxing on the patio!

PROJECT: #1ROOM30DAYS REVEAL: HOME OFFICE MAKEOVER

We have come to the end of PROJECT: #1Room30days! I must say, I never thought I could get a room finished in 30 days. I worked with some amazing ladies who I challenged to take on the same task, and they did an awesome job!

This space went from being my daughter's bedroom to my junk room. You know the room where you just throw stuff in and then close the door and  pretend it's clean...yeah that kind of room. Here is what the room look like in March:

this is embarrassing ya'll, but it's the truth. and the truth will set me free! 

My plans for this space was to have it as my girl cave, my get away room and most importantly, my home office to focus on all things BBGD. I think I was able to accomplish that. I wanted something super feminine with a mix of glam and comfort. 

This room is broken up into two sides, the relaxing side and work side. The relaxing side is off to the left.

This cozy little couch is from World Market. I picked this up about 3 years ago. The arms lay down so it turns into a twin sized bed. I knew from the beginning that I wanted a gallery wall. I picked up these prints and frames from Hobby Lobby. I love how it all came together. The colors are beautiful and the prints have special meaning to me.

If you follow me on Instagram, you will remember I asked for advice on how to handle this bar cart. After weighing all my option I ended up leaving it as it. It's a black brown color but I actually like how it looks in the space. This little cart is from IKEA and was found in the As-Is section.

I turned my old junk basket into a basket for my little plant. I'm all about re-purposing and saving coins so this was a great way to cut back on spending.

The right side of my room is for work. I created this corkboard wall here and I absolutely love it!

One thing I didn't want to do was spend alot of money. In order to do that I thrifted alot of my office items. The shelves hanging up and this basket for my plant was actually a thrift find from my good friend Erin. Also, most of my desk supplies are from the thrift store and were either left as is, like these paper holders or updated with gold spray paint (like my wastebasket and penholder).

This file cabinet was also a thrift find that I spray painted white. It really comes in handy for all the paperwork and books that can pile up.

I want to keep my desk clean, one thing I hate most is a cluttered desk. I won't even leave my desk at work for the day without cleaning it and I'm constantly cleaning it throughout the day. I want that same clutter free desk that I have at work to be in my home office. I have only a few things on my desk and everything else is in a box or in my file cabinet.

So what do you think of my finished space?? I have to tell you, I love it!
