Style Crush: The Dime Building - Detroit, MI

A couple of weeks ago, I visited Detroit. We stayed in the downtown area and was in town to celebrate my cousin's birthday.

I'm a huge breakfast person, so when the group talked about walking around to find a good breakfast spot, I was immediately down. I can eat breakfast anytime of the day, literally ANYTIME. We stumbled upon The Dime Building that has a little brunch spot inside.

After doing a little bit of research, I learned that The Dime Building is one of Detroit's oldest skyscrapers. It got its name from a interesting marketing tactic, and being a marketer I found this story pretty interesting. The bank did not have a lot of capital so it came up with the plan of allowing anyone with a dime to open up an account. This idea turned out to be a profitable one, and lured in many customers. The bank went on to be very successful.

....and the rest is history....

But let's talk about this beautiful decor. I was so in love with this lamp. I love an interesting lamp. This lamp base is calling my name!

One thing I really loved about this space was the mix of colors and textures. This space features a cognac leather couch, eggplant microfiber benches and green linen armchairs.

I have lately found myself drawn to rich colors, and I love this mix. This gave me some ideas for my bedroom makeover.

Another thing I loved about this space was how they took a big open area and sectioned it off into different spaces. Most newly built houses are open floor plans. I have one myself and my set up of furniture has always helped to break up the space.

They used a large long table to break up the sitting area and added more rich colors through the use of these purples chairs.

Lastly, one of my golden rules is always to add something 'alive' to a space. This space had big beautiful trees and plants throughout the space. Adding this simple element really made the place feel alive. This reaffirms my belief of adding greenery to spaces.

Always remember, inspiration can be found anywhere. I was not only inspired by the decor but also with the history of this building.  The power of people putting their dimes together built a successful bank. There are a couple lessons I can draw from this:

1. A little goes a long way
2. Small steps accomplishes Large goals

Style Crush: W - Atlanta Buckhead

I'm back with another round of Style Crush and today I'm feature W Hotel in Buckhead (Atlanta, GA).

Over the weekend I spent time with one of my sisters for her birthday. It is our birthday tradition to get a room for our birthday and have a girl's night. We have been doing this for a few years now. It's a way for us to relive our college dorm room days. Sometimes we go out and sometimes we just sit around and talk to catch up.

I couldn't help but grab a couple snaps of the room we stayed in. I was super inspired by the decor and it gave me some ideas on some style challenges I have been facing.

One challenge I have been having is rugs, specifically, the best rugs to use with sectionals. I love the use of this round rug with the sectional.

I love how this rugs breaks up the boxy feel of the sectional. I will be on the lookout now for the perfect large round rug to fit my sectional. I think it's a great way to add a little interest.. I'm wondering why didn't I think of this in the first place.

One thing I'm switching around is my house if the use of gallery walls. I love a good gallery wall, but I think larger pieces are more my style. I love the use of this large print over the couch.

I'm not particularly in love with the print, but I do love the gold foil. Now let's talk about this gorgeous door.

I am in love with this door. I guess you would call it a modern barn door. Barn doors are all over the web now-a-days. I never thought it was quite for me until I saw this modern version. I love the frost glass with the white overlay. One problem we have is privacy on our back deck. I would love to update my sliding door with this treatment. It will still allow light in while giving privacy.

Lastly, I have been considering converting my home office into a guest bedroom. I love how they added this workspace to the bedroom. This would be the perfect solution for me.

All in all, I loved the design of this suite. Lighting was an issue so I wasn't able to capture the best pictures or the ones that I wanted.

So what do you think of this space?  What design challenges do you find solutions in the places you visit?

Style Crush: TRYP Wyndham - Puerto Rico

Welcome to the Style Crush Series! I'm super excited to start sharing places I visit that inspire me and my style. Last month I visited Puerto Rico, it was an awesome trip. My two best friends and I spent time just relaxing and hanging out at the beach.

We split our time between two hotels and fell absolutely in love with the second hotel: TRYP Wyndham.

This super modern space was so pretty and trendy. Walking into the hotel I was IN LOVE! This is the first view that you will see to your left. THE CHANDY! Seriously, this chandelier, absolutely beautiful! The things I love most about this space is this oversized ottoman and the lighting. The color scheme really caught my eye too.

If you walk back through this area you will run into the gorgeous sitting area. Again, the lights are just too much for me to handle! I'm obsessed with them. I picture this type of decor in a modern loft. The studio light type floor lamp would really be perfect for a modern space.

The chairs here give me a Gothic-Modern feel. I've been really into navy blue lately so I could easily picture these in my home... unfortunately I don't have the space for something this big. Lastly, the high ceilings in this place added to the dramatic flare.

The bedrooms, although small, pack a lot through decor! I was instantly drawn to the colors in the room.

The fuchsia, white, orange and shades of blues all come together perfectly. I never would have thought to combine these colors. The color blocking is so simple and the stripped pillows add just enough interest to the space.

I wasn't 100% sure how I felt about the TV area, the pattern wasn't my favorite but I do like the idea of making the TV area a decorative area with the fabric backdrop. Adding the orange shelf looks great to me.

The ottoman matched perfectly with the pillow on the bed. As I mentioned the room was small so these were a great option for additional seating. If you have a small area where you need extra seating you should def consider a pair of sturdy but stylish ottomans.

Lastly, I love this sliding door. It's great for a tight small spaces. Instead of taking up extra space with opening a door, this door slid to the left. I loved the frosted glass too. It made the space feel less closed in but still offered the privacy needed for the bathroom.

I'm not big on wall sticker decor, but i loved this one. Again, it saves on space and it's a bold way to add decor with the splash of black paint.

There was so much I loved about this space, it's perfect inspiration for how to decorate a small space in a modern and classy way.

What do you love most about this space? Are you crushing on this space?
