Eclectic Dining Room

It took about three months to get this space finished. This is my first time actually having a room fully completed in my house with everything I love. Over the years I would say my style has shifted a bit from contemporary to more of an eclectic vibe. It kinda fit my personality. I'm simple but there a bit of randomness that just goes. 

Initially looking at the room you may notice the beautiful wall map. This mural was painted by my god-sister, by hand, no stencil, no tracing.. just straight free forming. It was amazing watching it all come together. I tried to stay out of her way as she created it, but it was hard to not just stare and watch.

I've spoken about before my recent love of travel. Granted I've only been on one international trip, but I have been making some progress in seeing new cities domestically. One thing I'm trying to infuse into everything I design is my passions. I love to entertain and I love to travel. This map is a bit of an encouraging reminder to get out and see the world.  Every time I visit a new city I put a push pin in the wall.

When it come to entertaining, I'm pretty simple,  I like to have my favorite drink with my favorite people. I purchased two of the IKEA shoe cabinets and turned it into my mini bar. It holds all my special glass and drinks, discretely.

Another new addition to the room was my light fixture. I wanted something simple that would stand out and I was surprised to find that Target carried beautiful light fixtures... this is no plug, I was just truly surprised. It also wasn't too bad on the pocket. I believe it was about $129.00. Because I'm not a fan of downward light I did not put a bulb in the bottom of the chandy, but I don't think it looks to bad without one.

This is no doubt my most favorite room I have put together. I am absolutely in love. My daughter loves it too and hangs out and reads in the dining room. And lastly, I purchase a new table from American Signature, again another surprise find that was not expensive. Only $260. 

I spray painted my silver metal chairs a bronze finish to match with the chandy. I love love love it all. I can't want to finish the next area of my house!

Master Bedroom Makeover

My absolute favorite area in my house in my bedroom. I’m very particular about how the bedroom should look because I have always believed that this is the true sanctuary inside the house. I have been procrastinating on getting it fixed up because I wanted everything to be just right. Even though it is my favorite place, I have been truly neglecting the room.

Well, I have finally tackled this room. I wanted to create a space that was both feminine and masculine so that Mr. and I could both enjoy and feel comfortable in the space. I already had most of the basics for that, so it was just as simple as giving my space a mini makeover by adding décor pieces and accent furniture that would help accomplish that.

Here is the space before. Like I said, I have all the bones, just no meat on them! Here is the view walking into the room.

This area is on the right side of the bed in the corner.

My game plan was to add some color, some nice textures, cute accents, nice wall decor and a cozy area for lounging.

I went to Big Lots and found some great items to add to the room to spruce up the décor. Everything was nicely organized so I was able to find what I needed. I am a stickler about that! If the store is not organized, I'm turning around and leaving!

I started first by tackling the cozy area for lounging. I wanted something that not only looked good, but that was also comfortable. That is so important for a lounge area! There were a lot of great quality options to choose from from upholstered chairs to full arm chairs to leather chairs. I ultimately ended up choosing a brown leather tub chair. It compliments the brown in my side table very well!

The chair fits so well in the far corner of my bedroom. I added a pillow I had on hand for extra comfort and now that area is good to go!

Next, I set out to find some pillows. There were so many to choose from in different shapes, sizes, and materials. I wanted to grab some throw pillows that had great textures. Also, it was very important to me that they were of good quality since pillows tend to get a lot of use out of them. I found a cute brown suede-ish material pillow and a black faux fur pillow. Both pillows are super comfortable and of great quality. I added one to my bed and the other to my desk chair.

I have to tell you, I was pretty surprised to find these two pillows, I wasn’t expecting to see such stylish items, so you better believe I snatched them up quickly!

I added a gallery wall to my bedroom. I have a lot of blank walls in my room. I already had some frames on hand I had recently taken out of my daughter’s room that she no longer needed, so I used those to create a gallery. I wanted to add more frames to it so I picked up more frames from Big Lots. I am trying to achieve a classic look so I looked for frames that were simple yet elegant. I found these silver frames that fit well with the look I was going for. I updated them with different prints and added them to the gallery.

Last on the list was to add color. I have a blue dresser that I have had stuffed in my closet. I wasn’t sure what to do with the dresser, but after picking up my accent pieces and décor I realized it went perfectly with the other colors. I moved the dresser out of the closet and placed it across from my bed.

I dressed it up by adding picture frames, candles, and a mirror set I found at Big Lots.

...and a little bit more about this mirror set, I loved the texture and coating of them. Which works out perfectly because I'm looking to add as much texture as possible. I was shocked to see that it was priced very well! There was another lady looking at the set too and as soon as she walked away you better believe I snatched it up!

I also completed a little DIY project on my curtain panels. As you can see from the before shot, they were plain white, I spent time adding a pattern to them by stenciling them. If you follow me on Instagram, you have gotten some sneak peeks of them. I will share a tutorial later on how to achieve this look for your plain curtains.

So now, I have a great comfortable space that I was able to give a mini makeover to with home décor and accent pieces all from BigLots! Styles and assortment vary by store, but I can tell you that I ran across some great finds and am I beyond excited with how the room came together!

Reupholstering Chairs - Breaking up [with] Matchy Furniture Series

If you remember from my last post, I am trying to break up my matchy dining room furniture. The first thing I went after was changing the chairs' fabric. I got this done on Saturday afternoon while watching TV. It's very simple to do and if you want to do it yourself, check out my How To Reupholster Chairs post HERE.

Now on to the details, here's what I originally started with:

Yes, my chairs really looked like this..hanging fabric and all. I had changed the fabric on these chairs a couple of times and some kind of way it ended up getting to this point.

If you follow me on Insta you will know of me sharing my bargain find at Hobby Lobby. Here's the fabric that I found. I love the texture and color.

I use my step by step guide to reupholster the chairs. The process seemed to take forever for some reason, or maybe I was just super impatient at the time. Nevertheless, I got it done.

So I completed step one of breaking up this set, and trying to make it look less "out of the box." If you want to see what it originally started with, check out my previous post. Up next I'll be looking to add some different style chairs to the table, maybe I will get lucky and find something thrifted. If not, I have my eye on something at World Market that I think will fit just fine.

Dining Room Inspiration - Breaking Up [with] Matchy Furniture Series

As my style continues to evolve I have found that matching furniture sets has to be my least favorite things in life. (If you have a matching set, nothing personal, just my personal preference) I have a matching dining room set, table and four chairs, that I purchased about 5-6 years ago. It's a very nice set and I always get compliments on it, but it bores me now. So I'm working on way to make the set look less matchy and less "out of the store".

Here is the exact set that I have. This is a picture from a site that sells the same one. I would take a picture of what I have now but the table is covered with all of my daughters toys. :)

It really is a nice set, but like I said, the matchy matchy is boring me. So I'm gathering inspiration on how to break up the set and sharing some ideas I found

I love how Heather Scott Home & Design broke up their set by using varying types of styles for their chairs.

This makeover featured on PopSugar is another great source of inspiration. I've changed seat covers many times, so I can't say this is a new idea, but I do love the change that they made to their chairs

Another idea I've found is to paint or stain your table. I'm not sure if I have the nerve to paint my table, but I am really considering restaining. Here are some ideas from Family Feed Bag and Live Pretty on a Penny.



I'm still trying to figure what to do with this lazy susan in the middle of the table, so if you have any ideas please share them with me!

To Sectional or To Not Sectional....That is the Question!

How do you all feel about sectionals???  I have been battling back and forth over rather or not to put one in my living room. Well actually, I have one, so I should explain better. When we first moved in I purchased a sectional from World Market. I absolutely loved it! It is very versatile. All the pieces come apart so you can arrange the set how you would like. For the first year it was a sectional, then broken up into pieces, then some pieces were put in other room and I had one couch with two chairs.

Well now I'm back on my sectional train so it's back in the living room... and I'm not sure how I went so long without it! I need you all to tell me what you think about it.

I personally have always like them. I think they instantly make a room feel cozy. The sectional helps to divide up my living space since I am in an open concept floor plan. Also, they are great for lounging! My daughter is already kicked up on it.

What I love most about this sectional is that it is so comfy. I'm curled up right now in the corner as I type this post.

So now I have the sectional and this gorgeous chair I will share about sometime soon. This room is still very much under construction so once completed I will have a post about the finished living room.

Ok and this is not the prettiest picture and my child has completely taken over the TV, but it gives you an idea of my sight line now with the sectional. I can see all the way through to my entryway.

So what do you think? To sectional or to not sectional? ......that is the question!

Garage Entry Before and After

I was cleaning up the house today and realized I never shared my garage entry update. This is a little space outside of the living room placed in between my laundry room and garage. It's a weird hall because it has so much in so little space. The door to the left is a bathroom and then there are two more doors to the right, not pictured, that is a coat closet and storage. So before I get into the details, here is the room before.

This was it, a shelf and basket for shoes. The shelf did more junk collecting that anything and the basket was just a mess. It wasn't easy to find shoes needed without making the space look worst than where it started. My goal here was three things:

1. A place for shoes

2. A shelf for keys

3. A mirror for self check

That simple.. and honestly that list wasn't hard to fulfill. Here is the space now-

I covered everything on my wish list, and even added some décor in there.

I got the shoe cabinet here pictured from IKEA. I cannot recommend this cabinet enough, especially if you have kids. It is so easy for them to use and holds a far amount of shoes. My daughter easily uses it and it keeps the area so nice and neat.

Laundry Room Makeover

I'm finally scratching another room off the list, well kinda I have some painting left to do, but for me that is complete enough. I spent the last two weekends working on my laundry room. This room was important for me to finally do because the window in there gives my otherwise dark hallway some major sunlight. With the laundry room door closed, the hall is so dark, so the room needed to be fixed up so the hall can get some great light!

You see what I mean by light? That bright spot at the top of the photo is sunlight beaming through! The main thing I wanted to do was to make sure the space was functional. I also wanted the room to be simple and cute and not look too overdone. I mean it's a laundry room.. nothing to go all full decor on.



The first thing we did was painted the room. You would not believe how dirty those walls were. The walls has served as a long time as my paint color test wall... so just imagine! To increase the functionality I added a drying rack and shelf over the laundry basket. We normally air dry clothes all over the house, so this was much needed!

Yes, I am one of those people who paint over holes and wall anchors. Too lazy to patch when it wont be seen by anyone outside of the house. :)

I picked up this floating shelf from Home Depot, and it was honestly one of the easiest floating shelves I have ever installed. I added a jar to collect spare change that we find in the washer. The jar was on clearance from Target. The faux plant on the shelf is from IKEA and potter from Ross. It adds a little cuteness to the space.

I found these super cute succulents and planters from Home Depot. They currently resting in the windowsill soaking up all that natural light!

The artwork is from Hobby Lobby. I always take advantage of their weekly 50% sales, so these only cost me a total of $12. Another thing I did was add hardware onto my cabinets. They previously didn't have any pulls at all. Adding the hardware gives them a finished look! I also picked those up from Home Depot. One thing I recommend getting it the hardware installer guide, it makes installation pretty easy. 

The wicker basket has been around for a while and I picked that up from TJ Maxx. I picked up the Nate Berkus rug from Target about a year ago and finally found a spot for it.

I have been talking about finishing this room for 3 years! It was so important for me to get this done.. although its a small space, I feel accomplished! Another reason why this room was important for me to do is that it gives me motivation to get laundry done. Nobody likes doing laundry, but making the space pretty makes it a lot easier to do. I love how the spaced turned out! I can comfortably leave the door open without the room looking a mess! Tell me what you think!
