DIY: Holiday Table Centerpiece

Merry Christmas Eve!

Tomorrow I will be hosting our annual Christmas breakfast with our parents. It's our yearly tradition to have breakfast together...going on three years now.  If you are anything like me you want everything to be perfect! ..and if you're anything more like me you've wait until the last minute to pull everything together.

I think the food will be pretty easy.. I mean how hard is breakfast! The food will be great but I wanted to add some Christmasy touches. The first idea that popped into my head was to do a centerpiece. So I gathered up some things I had laying around the house and that I found in my mom's yard and my yard and this is what I came up with.

If you are interested in recreating this here's what you'll need:



1. Pine Cones
2. Berries
3. Green fern branches
2. Big Bowl
3. Big base candle
4. Candle holder
4. Metallic Finish Spray Paint
5. Odorless Bug Spray
6. Plastic grocery bag
7. Drop cloth
8. Snow spray paint

Here's what to do:

1. Gather pine cones, fern like branches from yard, and berries place in plastic grocery bag (I made the mistake of bringing the pine cones in the house without spraying first and critters were alive and crawling everywhere! ahhhh! - the bug spray I used was organic so it left no smell)

2. Spray paint pine cones (I used a bronze and silver finish - doing half and half-  but I think any metallic will be fine) - don't forget to protect your surfaces with a drop cloth.

3. Place big candle in the center of the bowl. (I used a bowl from IKEA that I already had)

4. Assemble green fern like branches around candle. (The candle holder from Bath and Body Works -similar candle holder- that I have already had small holes in it so I stuck the branches through the holes to hold them in place.)

5. Add berries to arrangement on top of fern like branches. (I got these berries from my yard from some little bushes that grow on the side of my house)

6. Place dry spray painted pine cones in bowl around candle mixing the berries and pines together to create a layered look

7. Add light dusting of snow using the snow spray paint. (The snow paint sprays out really fast so do a few practice rounds on the drop cloth to control it better)
8. Place bowl in the center of table, light the candle, and enjoy your cheap DIY centerpiece!

This project for me was FREE because I already had everything in the house from previous projects or got it straight from the yard. I would estimate this project would cost between $15-$20 for anybody who needs to purchase everything.
