2017 Motto: Acquire Less, Experience More

Well Friends, we made it to 2017! I hope everyone had a great NYE and New Year Day! I spent time with my family and it was awesome.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my earlier post about my motto for the year. I won't repeat everything I said there, but in short, I want to focus more on collecting memories and gaining experiences rather than filling my house and life with material things.

Over the last 6 months I got to thinking about life. I guess that's what happens when you turn 30...you re-evaluate and make adjustments. I spend a lot of time investing into my house through decorating and re-decorating. It's a lot of time and energy ya'll! I truly love it, but I feel I am missing out on some other things in life... like experiences!

I've also shifted into this less is more mindset... I want to be more selective and intentional on what I allow in my environment, that ranges from friends to material things, to health. It encompasses everything really.

So here's my plan..

HOME

I am shifting into more a minimalist approach. Reducing clutter and decreasing what I bring into my home. I've always been a practical/functional decorator, but at times I find myself bringing stuff into my home that I know I don't need. It's easy to be influenced by the pretty stuff online.

RELATIONSHIPS

I want to spend time trying to further cultivate my relationships. I have always valued my relationships and it's time to really invest in my loved ones!

HEALTH

I want to take better control of my health. Reducing my unhealthy habits and focusing more on learning and adopting new healthy habits

TRAVEL

I want to TRAVEL! I don't care if it's a couple hours drive or a long plane ride somewhere. I'm ready to see the world. I took my first trip in ages last month to Puerto Rico, it was amazing! I realized one thing... I'm always itching to change my decor....because I don't go anywhere. Going forward, I'd rather have a change of scenery through traveling rather than redecorating.

I realize this was a lot to read through, and a little different than my norm, but I hope you'll bear with me as I grow and change!! I'm looking forward to a great year and I am wishing you the same!

Share with me, what will be your motto for 2017?!

  1. I agree. The decorating and redecorating has me questioning my mindset sometimes. I would love to travel more but find every financial excuse why I cant. Yet i can go buy things for the home in an instant. I love your motto this year.

  3. I'm so with you on this, Alaya. I know it's going to be so hard toning down my decor to become a bit more minimal, but honestly, it's necessary for me. I hoard so much stuff and end up selling lots of it to clients anyway. I'm working on getting me another storage unit to start storing everything that I don't absolutely love or need.
