For those who follow me on Facebook you will remember me mentioning that I wanted to share some crafty ideas between now and Valentine's Day. I think personalized and homemade gifts are the best Valentine's Day gifts! {anybody else over the chocolate and teddy bears like me??}
Anybody feeling crafty or creative lately? I know I have been!
Today I wanted to share How To Make a Coaster Set. It's an easy project that takes a little patience but well worth it in the end!
The great thing about this project is that you can customize your coaster set to any pattern or design that you choose through the use of scrapbook paper, old notes, pictures, or monogram letters.
I chose to use scrapbook paper and really customize the set by using different patterns for one set.

Tile (4x4 size)
Mod Podge (Gloss Finish)
Waterproof Spray Sealant
Scrapbook Paper
Scissors
Glue & Glue Gun
Rubbing Alcohol
Foam Brushes
Felt
Twine
Do This:
1. Cut Scrapbook paper to size of tile. I varied with cutting exactly the same size and 1/4'' short than tile
2. Clean Tile will rubbing alcohol. This will remove and dirt or grease that will interfere with the glue
3. Using Foam brush add even layer of Mod Podge to Tile
4. Add Scrapbook paper to tile. Make sure to work quickly to smooth out any bubbles working from the center out
5. Allow to dry for 10 mins
6. After 10 mins add layer of Modge Pod glue on top of the scrapbook paper. Allow this layer to dry 15 mins.
7. Repeat step 6 at least 3 times.
8. Allow set to dry at least 12 hours
9. Spray Waterproof sealant on tile (Be sure to follow all directions on the can)
10. Cut Felt to size on tile
11. Use glue gun to add glue to back of tile
12. Add felt onto glue pressing down firmly
13. Optional - Use twine to tie set together to give as gift
This was an inexpensive project to make. I would estimate about $5.00 for a set of 4. The tiles was $.16 a piece and scrapbook paper was $.59 a piece. All of the other needed items were under $5.00 and even cheaper by using the 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby.
Are you going to try this project out. If so, I would love to see your set! Share with me on Facebook!
Here's another great post about DIY Coasters.
These would make really great teacher gifts.
ReplyDeleteI used the tiles for coasters too. Only I stamped them and clear coated them about 4 times. I love yours and I plan to do that when I get more tiles.
